Lorraine and Bill Ash (back row, right) joined First Candle's Team New Jersey on Capitol Hill May 18, 2004 to lobby for a National Institutes of Health budget increase to fund stillbirth and SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) research. First Candle, formerly the National SIDS Alliance, changed its name when it expanded to include stillbirth on its agenda. Some scientists are exploring the possibility that the sudden quiet passing of SIDS infants may be related to what happens to stillbirth babies in utero. A total of 70 people from various states lobbied congressmen and senators that day.
